About Us

You'd think that with the two of us, we'd be at least 50% of a Genius. Sarcasm aside (just this once), we happen to be quite the dynamic duo. 20% Genius is our name, but collaboration is our game. We helped pilot Genius Hour/Google 20% Time/Passion Projects with our district. Together we've come up with a number of easy to implement activities to help run a successful Genius Hour/Google 20% Time/Passion Project. The name 20% Genius is a funny (at least we thought) way of saying that this blog will mainly focus on our experiences with Genius Hour and other 21st Century Skills in the classroom. 




Lauren

I am a fifth year teacher in a suburb in Illinois. Fourth grade teacher by day and reading specialist by...certificate. I have a passion for creativity, and some may call me a technology guru. From Harry Potter Camp, to TECHsperts, to Business Club, I'm constantly staying busy professionally.

Other than teaching, you can probably find me brunching on a rooftop somewhere, or obsessing over all there is to do (and eat) in the best city in the world, Chicago! I enjoy crafting, cooking, reading, traveling, and spending time with family, friends, and boyfriend.








Kristin

This year, I'll be starting my ninth year of teaching in a suburb of Illinois. I'm currently working as a differentiation coach and helping teachers to implement Genius Hour. Prior to this position, I was a Gifted Specialist and a middle school math and science teacher. I love incorporating creative thinking, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration into lessons! When I'm not teaching, I enjoy patios/rooftops in Chicago, walking my (adorable!) dog, and catching a sporting event or two. Go Cubbies and Bears! I also enjoy baking, crafting, gardening, playing sports, traveling, and reading.
